SB 28-FN - FISCAL NOTE
AN ACT relative to the transcription of hearings before standing committees of the senate.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Senate Chief of Staff states this bill will increase state expenditures by $220,286 in FY 2003 and each year thereafter. There will be no fiscal impact on state, county, and local revenue or county and local expenditures.
METHODOLOGY:
The Senate Chief of Staff states this bill would require hearings before standing committees of the Senate to be recorded and transcribed verbatim by committee secretaries. In order to meet the requirements of this bill, it is estimated that eight legal transcriptionists or court reporters would have to be hired. The Chief of Staff assumes an annual salary of $51,159, and an average legislative session of 26 weeks, resulting in a salary cost of $25,579 for each position. Assuming Social Security and Medicare contributions of 7.65%, and that no additional equipment would be required, the fiscal impact is as follows:
Annual
Cost__
Salary (26 weeks) $ 25,579
Benefits @ 7.65% 1,957
Total Cost Per Position $ 27,536
Multiplied x 8 Positions $220,288
