HB 474-FN - FISCAL NOTE
AN ACT relative to motor vehicle plates for firefighters and emergency medical care providers.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Department of Safety indicates this bill will increase state expenditures by an indeterminable amount beginning in FY 2002 and continuing each year thereafter. There will be no fiscal impact on state, county and local revenue or county and local expenditures.
METHODOLOGY:
The Department states this bill will establish special license plates for the personal vehicles of EMS providers and firefighters who respond to calls. The Department assumes it will collect no revenue for the plates which usually run $19.20 to $43.20, depending on vehicle weight. The number of individuals who will apply for the plates is unknown, so the expenditures cannot be estimated but the Department did indicate the following:
· The minimum startup costs for any new plate issue are approximately $25,000 and include computer time, planning, artist fees and printing.
· The minimum number of plates to be manufactured for any new issue is 5,000 pairs.
· The cost to manufacture 5,000 plates will be $67,000.
