HB 1512-FN - FISCAL NOTE
AN ACT allowing persons leaving employment under the federal family and medical leave act to be eligible for unemployment benefits.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Department of Employment Security indicates that this bill will have an indeterminate increase on state, county, and local expenditures in FY 2000 and each year thereafter. There is no fiscal impact on state, county, and local revenue.
METHODOLOGY:
The Department estimates the approximate cost to state, county, and local governmental entities may be $7.029 million per year. The Department calculated this cost by multiplying the governmental labor force in New Hampshire; 71,000, times the number of workers estimated to have a need for Family and Medical Leave; 7.5%, times the average weekly benefit amount; $220.00 per week for 12 weeks. The multiplication of these numbers produces a total cost of $14.058 million. The Department estimates that 50% of benefits claimed may be reduced by leave pay, resulting in an estimated annual cost of $7.029 million.
