HB 1508-FN - FISCAL NOTE

AN ACT directing the attorney general to apply to the supreme court to convene a grand jury to investigate health care and insurance issues and practices.

FISCAL IMPACT:

The Administrative Office of the Courts and the Department of Justice have determined this bill may increase state expenditures by an indeterminable amount in FY 2001 and each year thereafter. There will be no fiscal impact on county and local expenditures or on state, county and local revenue.

METHODOLOGY:

The Administrative Office of the Courts provided for informational purposes, the following information; grand jurors are paid $10 per half day and $.20 per mile for mileage; 30% of overall juror expense is mileage; 70% of overall juror expense is per diem, and that a grand jury would consist of 20 grand jurors and 20 days of grand juror attendance.

The Administrative Office of the Courts and the Department of Justice are unable to determine the fiscal impact, as it cannot be determined when, if any, grand jurys would be convened as a result of this bill.
