Personal Biography
Born in NY City, I was raised in Huntington, NY, graduating from Huntington High School
I attended Bowdoin College
(BA, 1976, Magna Cum Laude; double majoring in Government and Legal Studies and in Environmental Studies)
University of Washington Law School (JD, 1980; Washington Law Review, Notes and Comments Editor), and Columbia
University (MBA, 1992)
I began my legal career in Washington, DC as a legislative assistant for Senator Warren
Magnusen (D-WA), soon becoming Maritime Counsel on the majority staff of the US Senate Committee on Commerce,
Science & Transportation, working directly with Senator Slade Gorton (R-WA).
In 1983, I joined Wilmer, Cutler &
Pickering (now WilmerHale) as an associate attorney representing regulated common carriers; later focusing my legal
practice on international trade and transportation at Graham & James.
In mid-1985, I moved to New Jersey to work in
the legal counsel's office of Sea-Land Service, Inc., the leading containerized shipping company, where my ultimate
position for several years was as Marketing Director, Europe/Mid-East in Rotterdam, Netherlands.
After marriage,
Maureen and I settled in Connecticut where I built a practice as an independent financial consultant to small businesses,
guiding them in organizing and re-organizing their financial structure. Over those years, I actively invested in real estate
and helped launch several small independently owned businesses.
Retired by 2008, we moved to Charlestown, NH.
Local Government Involvement
Appointed, Charlestown Heritage Commission, September 2009, and served as its chairman from 2011-13.
Appointed, Town Hall Committee 2012-13.
Appointed and chaired, Charlestown School Withdrawal Study Committee, 2019-20; appeared before the NH
Board of Education twice.
Elected, Charlestown Finance Committee for a 3-year term, March 2018.
Elected, Charlestown Planning Board for a 3-year term, March 2018; chaired, April 2020 to April 2021; initiated
and led a comprehensive review of town's master plan.
Sullivan County Delegation's Executive Finance Committee, since December 2020; vice-chairman for 2023-24.
Miscellaneous Information:
I have actively supported various local civic groups; primarily the Boy Scouts of America. I served as Scoutmaster of Charlestown's Troop 31 from July 2009 to
January 2017 and thereafter as committee chairman through 2020. Eagle Scout.
Passionate about education, history and the design of old homes, traditional
boats, and classic cars.
Nicknamed "Terry".
Married to Maureen for 33 years with two wonderful sons, both now successfully launched and independent.
Now serving 3rd term in the NH House.
