Throughout time, letting students see themselves in books and read books about a variety of types of people has allowed them to develop empathy and compassion. By allowing book bans, you limit literacy access in ways that may be harmful to not only individual students but also districts as a whole. It is the job of librarians to curate books and materials for all students and a law such as this takes the training and expertise of school librarians and puts it into the hands of untrained individuals or puts a larger load on the already busy librarians.
