This bill is unnecessary and harmful. It is about voter suppression not election integrity. As stated by the Secretary of State's office, there is no evidence of systemic voter fraud. Between 2016 and 2024, the state won around 15 voter fraud convictions. For context, in 2016 there were just over 1 million registered voters, in 2024, there were just under 900,000 voters. 15 voter fraud cases in 8 years. Student IDs are not acquired without significant verification. For the purpose of obtaining a ballot, a student ID provides more than adequate identity verification. NH needs to encourage young people to stay in the state. Roadblocks to voting make NH hostile to the young people we want to stay in our state. This bill disenfranchises a class of voters and should be voted ITL.
