I have been swimming in Pleasant Lake since my parents bought some land on the lake in 1960. The water used to be crystal clear, and has notably lost visibility over the years in spite of its still relatively high quality. Sometime around three decades ago my eyes began to sting and I started getting itchy eyes and a runny nose after swimming in the lake, so that I now swim with goggles and a nose clip. I have recently learned that my cold-like symptoms are most likely due to slowly rising levels of cyanobacteria in the lake, which have started actually blooming the past several years. I trust this Bill will help prevent the rise and hopefully even reduce the levels of cyanobacteria in lakes throughout New Hampshire.
