Supporting SB 598 is in everyone’s best interest. Cyanobacteria blooms are increasing across New Hampshire, threatening public health, drinking water, recreation, and local economies. The existing mitigation fund has provided funding to address cyanobacteria blooms over the last several years, but is now nearly depleted. Demand for funding is growing, given the impact of climate change on our environment and the costs of remediation, which is beyond a small community’s ability to fully finance on their own. Keeping NH Lakes healthy keeps property values high and attractive, leading to higher tax dollars for local communities. Tax dollars from tourists who flock to the lakes in search of recreation, while supporting the restaurants, movie theaters, shopping establishments etc. are a source of state revenue. Without healthy lakes, tourism will decrease and along with it important tax dollars. Public health is at risk from cyanobacteria toxins found in drinking water as well as toxins found in lakes and ponds. I urge you to support SB 598. It is a win win for lakes and the people who enjoy them. Thanks, Chris Wallace
