I am writing as a family member of a person who has often required the services of the emergency room and IEAs for Mental Health crisis. We are well familiar with the shortage of staff in the long waits for a hospital bed to open up, so there in therapeutic care to begin. This is a very traumatic process and woukd be more traumatic if IEAs are permitted for SUDs.. . I do not support taking the current IEA process and adding SUD cases. The IEA process is for people who are at risk of life and limb to self and others, because of a provable incapacity that make it impossible for the person to make informed choices while ill, The standard is very high on this in order to deprive the person of their rights and liberty.
