I am writing today to express strong opposition to HB 1358. The current process requires a two-thirds majority vote before a public school can be converted to a charter school. This process fosters healthy debate and discussion among citizens about a change which will impact the community. It also helps ensure that the community is fully aware and informed about the change that may take place. Furthermore, it has not gone unnoticed that this vote was scheduled during vacation week, when many parents and teachers are not able to be present. I urge the committee to vote Inexpedient to Legislate on HB 1358.
