Dear Chair Noble and Members of the Education Policy and Administration Committee, I oppose HB 1358. I don’t believe a commission should be established to study converting all public schools to charter schools because I do not believe that such a conversion should take place. Public schools should be locally controlled by elected municipal school boards. These elected officials have a better understanding of the needs of their school districts. Charter schools have less control at the local level. They are administered by appointed board members and are privately operated with less oversight than public schools. The do not necessarily have strong ties or commitment to the local community. I ask that you vote Inexpedient to Legislate on HB 1358. Respectfully, Linda Olson Bundy Antrim
