I oppose this bill for following reasons: We should not reject $4.5 million in federal funding to help those who have legally come to this country seeking the exact thing many of our forebears sought: freedom from life-threatening political, religious and cultural persecution. Our forebears believed in the promise of America and taught us to honor and cherish that promise. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
