We should not be looking to further restrict women’s bodily autonomy and it is exhausting to have to continue to say that! This bill would disallow a vital medical service after 20 weeks gestation. This is a critical point in pregnancy where things like organ abnormalities can be detected on ultrasound. Given there is so much emphasis on not needing handouts and government assistance, it would not be logical to stop terminations for fetuses who would ultimately go on to being major financial strains on an already spread-thin system. Further, generally abortions done around this time are performed for reasons greater than the child not being desired. There is no need to cause further heartache to these people by forcing them to choose between following the law and their possible child’s quality of life. We are supposed to be the Live Free state and I would prefer no further restrictions to that concept simply because of the possibility of gestation.
