I oppose this bill HB1358. Why is this bill HB1358 being introduced? This bill would make the current public school systems partisan and education should not be political. This bill would take away local control and for just these reasons alone should not be considered. This bill would create a huge bureaucracy which would make it almost impossible to evaluate and correct local problems. The administration of schools would be at the county level instead of the town level which is not acceptable. An oversight committee would be a part of this bill which is completely unacceptable. As a taxpayer if there is a problem with the school system I want direct access at my local town level to deal with and rectify the issue. This bill would create an oversight committee of legislators and does not mention what educational qualification would be required for this. The educational system should not be politicized which this bill would do. This bill would create a single superintendent for each county. This role would create so many problems for one superintendent that the role would be reactive instead of proactive. For these reasons and more I oppose bill HB1358.
