At a time when we are fighting over basic school funding and whether teachers are allowed to teach accurate, comprehensive history, it is outrageous to prioritize a mandated firearm curriculum. Our classrooms need resources, support staff, and academic investment — not political distractions. Furthermore, firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States. The solution is stronger safety policies and prevention — not normalizing guns inside public school curriculum. If lawmakers are serious about protecting kids, they should focus on fully funding public education and passing meaningful gun safety measures, not shifting responsibility onto schools to manage a crisis they did not create.
