Studies on the reading recovery program bring valid questions to its efficacy and long term benefits, however, pulling it out from under the rug of schools does not provide a benefit. Without replacing this program with meaningful and effective reading supports that are systematic and backed by science for our students, we are simply taking away tools for teachers to use to address our neediest young readers. This is short sighted and looks a lot like the state is attempting to shirk its duties to educate our young citizens.
