As a long time teacher of students in Grades K-3, I know that teaching beginning literacy skills, and supporting the development of those skills until students transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn", requires years of experience and teacher training. At a time when Public Schools in NH are being demonized and underfunded by the state, and homeschooling and private and religious schools are being state funded without having to prove efficacy, I question this bill I do not have any particular bias toward the Reading Recovery Program, but I wonder... -On what basis was this bill created? Was data collected? -What will happen to the money that was earmarked for this training? -What will replace the Reading Recovery Program for beginning readers who are struggling? I suspect this is just one more bill created to undermine Public Schools and Public School Teachers in the state of NH. Why?
