This bill has no place being passed and should be ITL. It places more responsibility on already overburdened public schools by having parents register with the school districts only. This also opens parents up to possible truancy and neglect allegations as the bill seems to say that you only need to register if wanting to take part in extra curricular activities, ignoring the compulsory education laws. The bill seeks to limit the flexibility that homeschoolers have to educate their children as best serves the students by having them follow public school time schedule. The bill also implies that special education students will only be recognized as having learning issues if evaluated and diagnosed by the public school system. Which completely ignores the other avenues that even public school parents use to get diagnoses and treatment for their children. . And worst of all the bill is vague and open to many interpretations which could lead to legal challenges in the future for the state, public schools and homeschoolers from all paths of homeschooling. Thank you for your consideration.
