For more information in the free state/Liberty Alliance's agenda to dismantle NH government and public education, visit: https://granitestatematters.org/ This amendment sounds simple. Who would oppose parents directing their children’s education? But constitutional amendments are not slogans. They are structural changes. When we elevate broad and undefined language into the constitution, we create new grounds for legal challenges against public schools and state standards. New Hampshire parents already have substantial authority over their children’s education. The question is not whether parents matter. The question is whether we want to constitutionalize language that could destabilize public education policy and invite years of litigation. Constitutions should protect fundamental rights that are at risk. It is not clear that parental authority is currently under threat in a way that requires constitutional elevation.
