I strongly oppose HB 1217. This bill seeks to carve out discrimination based solely on biological sex under the guise of “clarification,” but in reality it legalizes exclusion and unequal treatment in bathrooms, locker rooms, and athletics. Protecting people’s safety and dignity should not come at the cost of codifying discrimination into law. Defining who belongs where based on chromosomes rather than common sense and respect harms individuals and fractures communities. We should be expanding fairness and inclusion — not creating legal permission for discrimination. I urge firm opposition to this misguided and harmful proposal.
