As a former school board member myself, I know that the job is not about politics. While a board member we introduced full-day kindergarten. We had to decide how that new day would look, from busing, which saved money not transporting kids midday, to whether kindergartners would have access to subjects like art, music, and gym, and how we would balance teachers' schedules to make that happen. Inserting politics into that is merely a distraction.
