I am a medical social worker with hospital discharge planning experience. I work with high acuity/complex care patients. The insurance barriers health care providers face to ensure necessary care for patients is short-sighted and financially irresponsible. It is administratively burdensome and demoralizing to professionals who want to provide top of license direct care services, but instead spend it mired in bureaucracy. Denying care based on algorithms drives repeat admissions, medical complications, and mortality rates. AI should support the work of those who actually see and care for patients, not against them.
