As a former vet tech, I strongly encourage the use of titers to prove an animal actually has immunity to the disease they have been vaccinated for. The only reason many (including Rabies vaccine) are given every 1-3 years is because the companies simply didn’t test their efficacy beyond the 3 year mark, resulting in over vaccination of our pets. While some animals tolerate this schedule, many have adverse reactions and would have better health outcomes with regular titer tests and revaccination when the titer indicates they are no longer immune. Rabies is a serious disease and we no doubt need to prevent its spread but this can be achieved by regular titers to ensure our pets are immune.
