I strongly support the passage of HB 1356 which would extend the statute of limitations from 2 years to 10 years past the age of majority. This extension is vital to ensuring that individuals have adequate time to seek justice for harms that may only become evident in adulthood. Long-term complications from gender-altering procedures and treatments—such as puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones—often emerge many years later. These can include infertility, impaired bone density, sexual dysfunction, cardiovascular issues, metabolic disorders, adverse cognitive effects, and regret. Extending the statute of limitations in this context aligns with precedents set for child sexual abuse claims, where trauma often manifests in adulthood and arbitrary deadlines can unfairly deny victims recourse. As the parent of a trans-identified, vulnerable young adult, this issue is deeply personal. Should my daughter experience medical harm or regret in the future, she deserves the opportunity to seek justice. Thank you for your time and consideration.
