As a parent of a transgender young adult, I have considerable knowledge about, and ties to the transgender community. For this reason, I can tell the committee that the amount of people who detransition is infinitesimal. To include in this bill all types of gender affirming care is also not appropriate. This bill is too broad considering puberty blockers and cross hormones have been proven to be safe, and if desired, reversable. It is my opinion that this bill has been written in order to scare medical providers from providing necessary and safe gender affirming care to transgender minors and adults, HB 1356 is intended to make it more difficult for transgender individuals to access appropriate gender affirming care rather than help a hypothetical, and unlikely, "detransitioner" to sue their medical providers for providing necessary care. Therefore, I oppose HB1356.
