The current governance model already provides strong accountability to voters and protects donated funds and community trust, making this change unnecessary and potentially harmful to the stability of public library services. Library trustees are chosen specifically to oversee library operations, finances, and long-term stewardship, and opponents argue that replacing their authority with advisory status risks politicizing libraries and diluting the expertise needed to manage them well. This bill is a dangerous "option" for municipalities to take over libraries and base decisions on dollars-alone or worse, on political leanings of politicians.
