I oppose HB 1376. This bill removes critical protections for children by prioritizing rigid interpretations of biological sex over a child’s health, safety, and well-being. Decades of medical and psychological evidence show that gender-affirming environments are positive and often life-saving for transgender and gender-diverse youth. HB 1376 would enable harm by allowing a parent or guardian to block affirming care or support, even when that denial puts a child at risk. The state should not interfere in ways that increase harm to young people or undermine evidence-based care. For these reasons, I urge the committee to oppose HB 1376.
