I am writing in opposition to HB 1769. This bill restricts medical facilities that receive state funding from providing abortion referrals, even when a patient specifically asks for accurate, comprehensive medical information. This is a form of government-mandated censorship in health care. Patients deserve honest, complete, and unbiased information from their medical providers. Forcing providers to withhold referrals — or to redirect patients to pregnancy resource centers rather than legitimate medical care — undermines informed consent and patient autonomy. State funding should not come with conditions that prevent clinicians from practicing ethical, evidence-based medicine. HB 1769 would disproportionately harm patients who rely on publicly funded facilities for primary care, limiting their access to timely and appropriate health services. New Hampshire should trust patients and providers, not insert political ideology into exam rooms. I urge the committee to oppose HB 1769.
