I oppose HB 1277 because requiring voters to write a driver’s license or nondriver ID number on an absentee ballot application creates unnecessary barriers for elderly, disabled, low-income, and housing-insecure voters. Absentee voting is a lawful and essential method of participation, and adding new ID requirements introduces avoidable errors, administrative burdens, and the risk of disenfranchising eligible voters without improving election security.
