I urge you to oppose this bill to expand the physical restraint and seclusion of students in public schools. Changes to these important yet also controversial methods should only be made in policy by highly trained mental health and teaching experts who work with children with high needs. In recent years, local school districts and educational organizations have done a lot of work to revamp their policies and regulations regarding restraint and seclusion in public schools, ensuring that it is only being used when absolutely necessary, and being handled by those trained in how to do so without hurting or further traumatizing the child.
