Jill Blackmer

Dear Committee Members: I urge you to reject this unfounded effort to undermine a professionally operated organization that provides sorely needed services to vulnerable people in our community. The survivor services and prevention work must be protected; In reality, this bill is little more than a public relations stunt by those who want to silence victims of crime. Moreover, giving the legislature “investigative authority” over non-profit organizations is a dangerous abuse of power and would establish a harmful precedent for political intervention into the entire New Hampshire-based non-profit; community, negatively impacting organizations that provide services not otherwise offered - or funded - by the State. Such investigations would unquestionably run afoul of numerous statutory and even constitutional protections from abusive governmental interference. This bill simply is political theatre, unlawful, and not based in sound policy, and therefore should be rejected. Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter.
