Historical PFAS contamination on agricultural land is a piece of the PFAS puzzle that our state is stepping around. Agricultural land was not included in the USGS soil survey that was the basis for our recently enacted soil standards showing PFAS presence all across our state. This immense data gap leaves farmers in their own and without the data they need to protect their families health, impacts to their produce, poultry, livestock and feed as well as their wells. The practice of landspreading with biosolids from waste facilities that contain PFAS is allowed by our state and this is a pathway of both environmental contamination and human exposure that can be solved. This bill lays the groundwork for addressing this problem by supporting farmers who would be financially impacted by honestly acknowledging this is an issue. NH is receiving immense financial settlements from legal action against PFAS manufacturers and some of these funds should be directed to creates program such as Maine and other states are doing.
