I strongly oppose HR34. The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." HR34 denies Muslims full participation in their faith. This was never the vision of our Founding Fathers. The bill establishes a religious hierarchy, especially when combined with CACR28 that was sponsored by some sponsoring this bill. The words used in HR34 sound like those of Christian Nationalists. They narrow the scope of who is deemed worthy of participation in both faith and democracy. The words go even further, they are a tool for division. The diatribe called HR34 spreads disinformation, distorts truth, and to me, is bigoted hate speech. I have friends and acquaintances who are Muslim. They are citizens of the United States and follow the laws of our government. They are kind, loving, and involved in making our communities and state a better place for everyone. Targeting their religious beliefs is intolerable, I ask all of you on the Committee to vote NO on this un-American and vile House Resolution.
