I am writing to express concern about expanding or weakening immunization requirements through religious exemptions. • Religious freedom is important, but it should not override protections that prevent the spread of serious, preventable diseases. • Broad religious exemptions can undermine herd immunity, placing infants, immunocompromised individuals, and others at risk. • Existing law already balances individual beliefs with public health; weakening immunization requirements disrupts that balance. • Schools and childcare settings require consistent health standards to remain safe for all families, regardless of belief. I urge you to carefully consider the public health consequences and oppose efforts that weaken immunization requirements under the guise of religious exemption.
