I oppose HB 1022 which aims to specify the form for religious exemptions from childhood immunization requirements. I urge legislators to listen to scientists and physicians when making decisions on public health. We have to decide as a society if we value expertise and the well-being of all in a society over personal preferences. Individuals can choose to not vaccinate their children, but with that decision should come consequences regarding access to the benefits that a society offers to individuals. The common good must outweigh religious or ideological preferences for those who choose to be part of a society.
