Vaccines save lives. Mandatory vaccination ensures herd immunity, protecting not only the individual child but also classmates and community members who cannot be vaccinated. Vaccines can prevent contagious diseases that once killed or harmed many infants, children and adults. Without vaccines, children would be at risk for serious illness – and even disability or death – from diseases such as measles, whooping cough, or meningitis.
