Riona Corr | Support HB1750

SNAP is the first line of defense against hunger in our state. Our working families rely on the support the state of NH and federal gives to those who are struggling or undergoing moments of crisis. Many working parents, with children are recipients of SNAP and average SNAP recipient is on the program between 10months and 15months. As a single-working mom of 3 kids, the food costs in NH have risen astronomically, especially for fruits and vegetables. I remember the days when strawberries were 1.99 a pack. currently I am paying between 4.50-6.50 a pack of strawberries that, in my house hold, are available for 3 days. my mother, single-70 year old fixed income retiree with terminal breast cancer, has full custody of my nephew, 16 year old. She relys on snap for grocery dollars for herself and my nephew during this time. Growing up my mom had 2 jobs and my dad worked hard in his career. Current day on her own, she relies on the support due to an unfortunate family event, which brought my nephew into her care- especially with the extra costs due to medical bills. High antioxidant foods are recommended to those with cancer, and SNAP helps cover the costs of healthy food that is expensive. Please support the funding of the SNAP program to ensure all individuals in NH who have come across unfortunate life events have the support they need during crisis to continue to get healthy food on the table for themselves and their family. I urge you to support HB1750.
