Eileen Bilodeau | Oppose HB1792

This intent behind this bill underestimates the ability of students to think critically and develop their own beliefs, opinions, and values. I learned about the rise of the Nazi party in the 193os and was never compelled to become a Nazi. Homosexuality and gender dysphoria was never taught in my sexual education course and yet I am neither heterosexual nor cisgender. Let's stop pretending that the mere mention of something the governing political majority disagrees with needs to be censored. This bill is simply an legalization of bigotry and discrimination by denying the existence of non-binary, gender fluid, and queer identities, and labeling LGBTQ+ sexuality as unethical and abnormal. Lastly, the ability to impose punitive actions against any educator for teaching anything that is disagreeable to a student, parent, or any other "aggrieved person" is government control of speech and completely contrary to the First Amendment and the NH Bill of Rights.
