Do not believe that having city council approve school district budget will help control rapacious school budgets. It will not. Nashua's charter has had alderman approval of school budget in place for over 100 years and the exponential school budgets will make you cry. It is the only "department" that gets bloated funding every single year. Yes, the school board approves the budget but wiggle out of responsibility by pointing to the aldermen approving it. The same dimwits that approve bloated teachers union contracts is the same group that is obligated to fund its budget cost items. You are better off keeping school budgets as stand alone so the school board members are directly answerable for dumb decisions and so they cannot point fingers blaming a city council for approving budget.
