Alex de Geofroy | Support HB1548

I support HB 1548-FN because as a resident, it is nearly impossible to get a clear picture of how our special education tax dollars are being spent across the different types of schools in our state. Special education is often the largest and most unpredictable part of our local school budgets, yet we are currently operating in a data vacuum. We deserve to see exactly what it costs to provide these mandated services, whether they are delivered in a traditional public school, a charter school, or a private academy. This isn't about bureaucracy; it’s about basic transparency. If the state is going to move toward a more "choice-based" education system, we need to know the true cost of that choice. We need to see if certain types of schools are being left to handle all the high-cost, complex needs while others are not. Publishing this data will help our local communities plan their budgets more effectively and ensure that every tax dollar intended for students with disabilities is being used efficiently and fairly across the board.
