First off, this amendment would be in clear violation of the 1st amendment of the US constitution. Secondly, as teachers it is our duty to do our job as best as we can and serve the needs of the communities we are in. Teachers already have rigorous qualifications and hiring processes. Further, school boards are already in place as a "check and balance" system for determining if a teacher is to be hired (or stay hired) or if they are not a good fit for the community based on feedback and evaluations. Having teachers be elected would add unnecessary complexity to this process that has worked well for so many years. I STRONGLY oppose this proposed amendment and I am incredibly disappointed that it is even being entertained.
