I have a two acre swimmable pond - 14 feet deep - on my property. When we bought the property 20 years ago, the water was crystal clear and beautiful. I had it tested for swimming and the results were perfect - no algae, nothing bad, nothing to keep swimmers out. Neighbors used it and so it people who visited me as well as my family. Five years ago, the water became cloudy. I didn’t know what happened, so i had the water tested. It came back Cyanobacteria present and i was told not to swim in it or allow dogs to drink it. In the past five years, I have had it tested every year. Each year there was Cyanobacteria. ?? So we could not use it. Last year there was a brief - 3 week period - when none was detected, but it was late in the season and we did not use it. We hope that this summer, we will have a “no Cyanobacteria present” - test result! Please do what you can to control or eliminate this bacteria since it now seems to be present in so many beautiful lakes as well as our pond.
