I oppose HB 1817-FN. This bill further blurs the line between public education and the Education Freedom Account program by allowing students who are not fully enrolled in a district’s schools to participate in that district’s classes and co-curricular activities. Public school programs are funded by local taxpayers for resident students, and access should come with full enrollment and accountability. I am especially concerned about athletics, where this could open the door to recruiting and competitive manipulation between districts. This bill undermines the integrity of local public schools and creates yet another unfair advantage for a system already siphoning resources away from them.
