I oppose HB1778, which prohibits teaching public school students about "Personal Identity Ideology" including DEI, race, color, biological sex, sexual orientation, religion or gender identity. Why? It is important for our students to understand a variety of people in our modern society, not only to be taught about white, heterosexual, cisgender people. Teachers should have the liberty to teach without fear of reprisal. We are not teaching students to BE homosexual or transgender, for example. In fact, one cannot teach someone to BE homosexual or transgender just as one cannot teach a white student to be black. Restricting dialogue is not the right way to go for our society.
