HB1293 is a grossly unfair tax and burden on organizations that give back to state and local communities and will likely lead to the closing of valuable facilities that support New Hampshire’s history and culture. Most museum and other non-profit facilities are assessed well above the $1,000,000 threshold and will be at risk with this tax bill. Most of these facilities and organizations operate on a razor thin budget, hence being “Non-Profit” and do not have the assets available to pay property taxes and will have to make the difficult choice of selling their property to downsize or close entirely. The state should be protecting them not exerting additional financial issues on them.
