I am writing to state my opposition to this bill. This bill is about providing more building aid to charter schools. While I wholly support alternatives for students that may not thrive at our current public schools the taxpayer cannot continue to provide funds for these schools while we let existing schools languish. Our public schools have a GIANT backlog of projects that need to be funded. Not doing so has led to negative impacts on teachers ability to teach and students ability to safely learn. Most of the charter schools are run in leased buildings. If that is the case then they should be working with the owners/landlords to make improvements. There are limited state funds and we cannot afford to keep raising the bar and removing limits for charters. This leads to increased taxes no matter how you look at it due to our terrible property tax plan to fund schools. Education is a right for everyone in our state. Please remember that this includes students that are in public schools. By funding more for school choice and charters you are eroding public schools. My children are no longer in public schools but my taxes do go to support the next generation. Please put our public schools first .
