Last Spring, I initiated a petition in Grafton County requesting the Grafton County sheriff to terminate her contract with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Over 750 residents from all parts of Grafton County signed the petition. Clearly, I would prefer that local law enforcement did not cooperate with federal immigration enforcement at all. They have enough to respond to without being drawn into the mayhem of federal immigration enforcement. The strain on local police departments in Minneapolis to provide law enforcement and assure the public safety of the community at the same time, while dealing with ICE and BCP occupation run amok, is testimony to why this doesn't work. However, if local law enforcement is to be used in New Hampshire to assist in federal immigration enforcement, there should be a HB 1364. As a public health professional, I believe in the power of data to inform policy and action. Witnessing the footage of obscene ICE and BCP operations in Minneapolis, I can say that data on what is happening on the ground would be crucial in deciding how to proceed.
