Ryan Kaplan

Dear Representatives, My name is Ryan Kaplan and I am an 18-year-old constituent from Windham (03087), writing to request that you vote against HB 1132. Years ago, community members proudly donated the money so that flags (more than 50) that represent their national origin or the heritage of their ancestors could be hung in the atrium at our school. What resulted is a colorful array of flags that represent the strength and diversity of our student body. They are a beloved part of the visual landscape of our school. To my knowledge, no one in the community has ever objected to them. Removing them, as HB 1132 would require, would damage our community's sense of welcome. I would be personally horrified to see them torn down. Additionally, as a queer student, I am encouraged by the pride flags hung around our school that demonstrate our community's support for queer and trans youth. This bill, which would require their removal, symbolizes the triumph of hate and fear over love and acceptance. I find it incredibly disheartening that my representatives would even consider legislation that would require such a useless, offensive removal. Please vote against this bill. Best, Ryan
