I am a retired dietitian and diabetes educator, a breast cancer survivor and a family member of loved ones with serious gastrointestinal diagnoses and mental health conditions. In all of these contexts, I have both appreciated good health care and been challenged when insurance coverage was not adequate. Affordable, accessible health care should not be a privilege afforded only to those of means. Rather, it is a fundamental right that a civilized society provides for all.
